County Commissioner Pct. 4....Don Medina and his "Vision"

I mentioned before that every now and then, I receive a comment to one of my posts, that once I try to answer it in the comment section, I feel I'm taking up too much space. Today, is no exception as I received a comment by 'anonymous' regarding the race for County Commissioner Pct. 4. The race involves Oscar Garza, the incumbent, and newcomer Don Medina, candidate. 'Anonymous' raised the question as to why I haven't paid attention to an "important race" like the one for Pct. 4. Well, the problem that I am faced with is that I have pages and pages of notes that I take at events such as the one that was held in Weslaco this past Saturday. From there, I have to condense what I feel is important at the time to present to the readers of my blog. If the topic of the past two weeks has been the County Judge's race, then I am going to concentrate on that issue first. Keep in mind that this in no way means that I've completely forgotten about the other races in the city, county, or state, it just means that I have to put it off for a few days, go back to my notes, and find a way to condense it into something that's halfway presentable and coherent. So here's my take on the County Commissioner Pct. 4 race. Indeed, Don Medina was present at the Rio Grande Valley Veteran's Alliance forum held Saturday in Weslaco, which is more than I can say or will say about the absent incumbent, Oscar Garza. Medina's campaign flyer contains the slogan, "it's your right!". You bet it is, and he raised some excellent points in regards to county clinics, unpaved roads, and sub-par municipal park systems which he deemed a disgrace. His plan is to pave roads by using federal money provided by the gas tax that consumers in the Rio Grande Valley pay every time we refuel our tanks. He continued by stating that he wants to reutilize the current park system in many towns across Hidalgo County. The reason being that most surrounding towns and colonias have to travel to McAllen to take advantage of a decent park. His claim is to bring "integrity back to the community". That's where I put the brakes. It seems that the word 'integrity' keeps popping out of candidate's mouths so much lately, that I have grown increasingly wary of those who choose to use it. But, and this is a big 'BUT', I will admit that out of the handful of candidates that attended Saturday's forum, Don Medina is definitely one of the few in my opinion to leave a mark. There's something to be said for that, and it's this: Whoever you choose to vote for in March, make sure that everything he or she is promising to get done, is backed by realistic solutions. The idea behind a better Rio Grande Valley and Texas, isn't what a candidate or incumbent can claim to have done in the past, it's what he realistically can accomplish in the future.

I will grant that Don Medina is not part of the corrupt Handy/JD slate. That is good for him.

Medina is out to make a name for himself. He has a 'power trip' problem. When you speak to him, he makes himself out to be the God of the RGV.

Don makes good points, but his intentions are to become on of the top dogs, too. You ain't fooling me! Also, he comes across as overbearing so one-to-one contact is not his forte. Good luck!

all the hoopla over a little known public works director tryin to better his community. the "power trip" sounds like a person just tryin to do all he can for all the right reasons, not to be one of the top dogs (please)
look whos there now and see who has become a top dog for all the wrong reasons: MONEY. I know don and he only comes across strong because hes tired of the crap that goes on at the county, he should know cause he worked for one of the top dogs, bow-wow you go get 'em don. keep fightin for the people like you always have done(for the right reasons)

I know my vote will go for Mr. Medina. OWLS (Objective Watchers of the Legal System) Have you seen the commercial this group of women have made whereby they endorse Oscar Garza? Where is there objectivity? I think they should just be the WLS'. I feel this watch dog group has lost its objectivity. That's not to say that i felt they had much credibility to begin with. How can we allow Oscar Garza to be voted in as Commissioner? Look at what he has done, and if he was not guilty as he claimed; then why pay a fine at all. If it had been me i would have gone to court to clear my name once and for all. His having paid that hefty fine (i think it was somewhere in the neighborhood of $50,000)makes him look guilty as heck. I don't know enough of Mr. Medina, but you can bet that i will be looking out for him.

I've met Medina before he decided to run for office and I ran into him after he decided to run for office. There were definately some differences in his personality. My opinion is neither candidate shows "real" promise. One could say the devil you know is better than the devil you don't. I know the OWLS on a personal level and know that they are ladies who truly look out for the counties best interests. I don't know what circumstances led to their public endorsment of Garza, but I do trust their judgement.

I saw that commercial, and it sucks!! Those hoses will never be considered objective again.

I heard that they have made this move due to many member's financial problems that have been cured by Oscar, and Joe to the west.

Their sudden support of shaddy characters like Oscar make me assume this to be true.

I seriously doubt that. I know them personally and I believe they would be insulted by your allegations. If you'd like to leave your name and phone #, I'm more than sure any one of them would be more than happy to call you and you can ask them for yourself.

So if they were to go out and endorse Medina, then it would be ok. And anyone who believes that Medina is not part of a slate is sadly mistaken. They truly have their head in the sand.

The whole idea of the OWLS organization is that they're "supposed to be objective." Once they've endorsed they lose all credibility. I don't know these ladies personally, but i do have a problem with them endorsing anyone, much less Oscar Garza. One has to stop and think why all 4 commissioners, who are firmly backed by a local bank, would want Judge Garcia out. I truly believe because they are not able to pilfer from the counties coffers. I suppose they're not used to such honesty.

Anyone that keeps bringing up the fact that the 4 commissioners are against Ramon as a reason to vote for Ramon:

1. Has a flaw in the logic processor of his brain.

2. Doesn't know the first thing about the way this man politics. You are talking about a vindictive, underhanded, two faced person who turned IMMEDIATLEY on the people that helped him become elected in the first place.

I would be very careful in my support. You are nothing, but a tool to him. He will discard you when he is done with you...

Oh please, if anyone turned, it was these four commissioners. All of them are rats!!

The problems as stated earlier is that Ramon doesn't play ball with them, so they want the county idiot in there to make it easy for them.

To think otherwise, is to think without that "processor" you call a brain.

"County idiot" is one way to describe JD. There are others. Self absorbed and corrupt are two others. How about willing to pay Handy the $10,000.00 shakedown money she requested. Check his last report.

Yes sir, a man willing to do anything, yes anything to win. Boy do those commercials reveal a lot about this mans personality -- desperate, dirty and despicable.

My comments are for anonymous who wrote the following: "2. Doesn't know the first thing about the way this man politics. You are talking about a vindictive, underhanded, two faced person who turned IMMEDIATLEY on the people that helped him become elected in the first place." Let me guess, you are one of those crooks, or related to one, who cannot pilfer the county's coffers. That is the only reason i can think of why you would state that Judge Garcia turned IMMEDIATELY on the people that helped him become elected...

I would be very appreciative in you giving specifics or instances of how Judge Garcia turned on the people that voted him in. You can talk the talk, but can you walk the talk?
