PSJA Woes...They keep on coming, and coming...

"When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school, it's a wonder I can think at all".--Paul Simon. According to The Monitor on Saturday, local school board member Vangie Garcia-De Leon was arrested on DWI charge on January 22nd. In a written statement, she is quoted as saying, "I'm a public official, however, I believe in the judiciary process and will allow the judiciary process to run its courses as it would for any other citizen". Wow. It's so nice to hear that Mrs. Vangie Garcia-De Leon will come down from the public pedestal that the school board members from Pharr San Juan Alamo sit on, and be tried as a normal citizen. I commend her for that. I mean how many times do we here about an elected official thinking in terms of normal citizenry regarding their actions. Uncommon. What isn't uncommon nowadays in PSJA, is the way the superintendent Arturo Guajardo chose to handle the situation. In the same report, Mr. Guajardo is asked to comment on fellow member Garcia-De Leon. He is quoted as saying,"Why should I care? There's is no way that I would know if any of our members had any history of anything. It is not in my position to hear anything about employees private lives." Maybe so, but the issue at hand is not whether Mrs. Garcia-De Leon takes a multi-vitamin everday, or whether she buys her bath supplies at Target instead of Wal-Mart. The issue in question is a DWI arrest. If this were any other job, an employee is responsible for informing his or her employer of incidents like this so a company may take appropriate action. In some cases, it may even lead to termination. But why should he care? Right. Let's see, at last count the PSJA School District has been marred by headlines this past year concerning a stabbing at the high school, FBI investigations, indictments on members of the school board, riots at the high school, children being sent to the emergency room as a result of said riot, and now a DWI arrest. Maybe the superintendent and the rest of the school board members shouldn't care, but it's about time they start caring about something.

Why is it that we don't hear about this until over 2 weeks? This was obviously kept in hiding as much as possible.

It's just like last week's arrest of attorney Hector Villarreal on the same charge.

My bottom line: I don't really care. DWI is just so common around here that it's hard to keep track of. But if it is going to be reported, it should be done so immediately.

And as for Arty Sr., I don't blame him for keeping his mouth shut. He's got his own troubles. I hear his number will be up late Feb. or early Mar. In addition to that is his kid's probable loss next month. He was busted vandalizing a Balde Morales sign last week outside a print shop in San Juan.

The sky is truly falling in PSJA.

Where I'm from the locals gather in coffee shops mainly just to B.S. on local issues. Jr. will have the votes to win without a run off .

Hell, no!!

You must be from San Juan, the only Guajardo "stronghold". His only people hate him. The only ones that will vote for him are those that still fear retaliation from his daddy.

Campos can't even get his crap together in his hometown, and Andrew.....Andrew who?

Junior competition is Balde Morales. I know people in the west who swear by this guy. And remeber, the west always decides our elections.

But you're right, there won't be a runoff in this election. Unfortunately, it won't be Junior.

No I'm not from S.J. But this guy is getting ground in Delta area and Edingburg. but I'll have to agree with you on retaliation buy
his father. If you don't play ball you will be in the unemployment line if you work for the dist. Why hasn't Balde gone to any of the forums?

Good question. I only know about him through his website. He seems like a nice guy, and has experience in that office. He's better educated, and doesn't seem to to be affiliated with anyone.

I don't put too much emphasis in the Delta area. That's the worst area in terms as "votos vendidos", but I think Edinburg uses more logic in choosing a candidate. Besides, I've seen most of the past few elections been decided by the west.

In all these blogs, I see people talking about "Ramon's slate", and "JD's slate". Yet he never comes up. I'm assuming it true, and he states his independence in his site. This is why I'll be voting for him on March 7th.

I agree both of these candidates suck. Why can't we have someone really corrupt and crooked like Chuy Hinojosa. Is anybody going to run against this bum.

Balde has my vote. Arturo Jr. is just another crooked individual from PSJA whose father happens to be the superintendent. I met Mr. Morales about 2 weeks ago and he actually took the time to address my questions. This is a good well-rounded honest guy and I really hope he wins.
