A Call to Hidalgo County Voters...The floor is yours...

As the early voting for next Saturday's general elections continue, I'll leave the floor open to any comments from those of you who have any rants, raves, gripes, or praise for your local school board and the candidates vying for places on it. How about bond proposals, do you as voters agree? Disagree? Comments section is open. Who do you support? Who do you want out? Explain.

Let me tell you how it is: First of all the Hidalgo County appraisal district has been pushed from Governor Rick Perry to try to fund our own inefficient schools on our county and with that in mind the appraisal district has raised the overall assess values to 22% and did you know that every year we have many new homes and businesses coming into our county which generates 12 to 15% increase per year that being a combined increase of 35% in assess values, and now if the bond election passes another 8% will be the increase in our tax rate, well I don't know who gets a 42% raise per year, but I surely don't. The school district need to be able to build this new schools with this increases in assess values not raise the tax rate and make it so difficult for the next generation to have as a burden. It is time we say no and vote against the tax bond. PS. Schools tend to party too much with our monies. Hello, do they really care about our kids?

A few years ago, LJISD passed an $80 million bond for new schools and improvements yet NOTHING has bee done. Now they have a $90 million bond for 4 new elementary schools and a new high school. Are we to believe that they'll actually build it? What do you know?
